Paddling

So, what with Milo learning to take his first independent steps and that on our holiday, other firsts are almost overshadowed. However, what he also did first was see the sea, and paddle in it. On day one, he loved the idea, on day two, it made him cry. Also, talking of walking: he can walk perfectly well - set him on his feet and he pads off like a hiker - but he doesn't like walking without a safety net. He holds on to one of our fingers for moral support, but without pressure, without weight. Deprived of a finger, he's managed perhaps seven or eight steps - then he realises what he's doing and throws himself at the floor. These images might belie the whole holding onto only one finger thing, but think on this: safety first - the sea can be unpredictable and dangerous.

In this series of photographs, you'll notice that his trouserings get fewer and fewer as the sea takes hold.
